Tropical Storm Elsa has come and gone, leaving behind sun, warmth and opportunity in Hampton, Virginia ahead of Peninsula’s Friday night matinee against Edenton.
The Pilots ( 21-8, 4-3 second half) will be taking on the Steamers (11-9) — a former Coastal Plain League rival — Friday at War Memorial Stadium at 7 p.m. Gates will open at 5:30 p.m.
“Ask Alice” will be playing pregame rock ‘n’ roll on the pavilion in left field, as we will be hosting a seafood boil as supplies last.
Peninsula enters play coming off a dominant 9-2 win Wednesday against Holly Springs at War Memorial Stadium. They were propelled by left-handed pitcher and designated hitter Alden Mathes’ five-shutout-inning performance on the mound and 2-for-4, two-RBI day at the plate.
Mathes leads the Pilots in every offensive category except for walks — hitting .349 with 38 hits, seven doubles, two triples, six home runs, 27 RBIs and 11 stolen bases.
Edenton — who now plays in the Premier Collegiate League — is coming off a 7-5 loss against the Greenbrier Knights Wednesday.
The matchup will be an exhibition, not counting towards Coastal Plain League standings and statistics.
The game will be streamed live on FloBaseball and live stats will be available on www.pointstreak.com.
