The Pilots can’t put together back-to-back wins as they fall 13-6 to the Morehead City Marlins. Up 6-3 in the fourth inning, the Pilots gave up ten unanswered runs. Trey Morgan (VMI) led the team in hits, going 2-5 with an RBI double.
The Pilots were running all over the basepath in the first inning, recording three stolen bases. Red-hot Zac Morris (South Carolina) started off the scoring for the Pilots with a two-RBI single to put the Pilots up 2-0. Morris now has an impressive seven RBIs over his last three games.
The bottom half of the inning was less friendly to the Pilots. The Marlins punched back, recording three hits, two walks, and three runs to take a 3-2 lead.
After two scoreless innings for the Pilots, they exploded for four runs in the top of the fourth inning. Trey Waters (Old Dominion) batted in two runs on a double to left field, and Morgan batted in a run on a double. Mason Dunaway (James Madison) scored in between hits on a wild pitch.
The Marlins cut into the lead in the bottom half of the inning, scoring a run on a fielder’s choice to make it 6-4.
Two more came in to score on a single by Morehead City to tie the game up 6-6.
Morehead City took the lead in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI double to put them up 7-6. They extended the lead later in the inning, scoring six more runs to give them a 13-6 lead.
Starting pitcher Jay Schueler (Southeastern University) was shaky in the first inning but settled in right after. Schueler gave up three runs in the first inning and gave up no runs after.
The Pilots are back at home Tuesday, June 20th at 7 PM to face the Morehead City Marlins again.
