The Pilots got their third straight win in dominant fashion last night, beating the Martinsville Mustangs 14-2. Everyone was hitting for the Pilots, as four separate batters recorded an RBI.
Mason Dunaway (James Madison) was the player of the night, going 3-5 with six RBIs and a home run. He now has 46 hits on the season, leading the team.
Chris Martinez (Univ. of Science and Art) and Ethan Ott (UNC Pembroke) also had multi-hit games for the Pilots. Trey Morgan (VMI) had an impact in another way, walking four times and scoring three runs.
Brian Ereu (Univ. of Science and Art) had a fantastic start for the Pilots. The staff’s ace went six innings, giving up one earned run, four hits, and striking out five.
Cam Nuckols (VCU) got the three-inning save for the Pilots, striking out three Mustang batters.
After a quiet first inning, Ethan Ott made some noise, blasting a two-run home run over the left-field wall to put the Pilots up.
Location issues for the Mustangs in the fourth helped the Pilots extend their lead, as four walks put another run on the board. Mason Dunaway (James Madison) cashed in with the bases loaded and two outs, hitting a single to left field to score two more.
Mason Dunaway got his second hit in the sixth inning with a double. He was scored later in the inning on an RBI groundout by Justin Starke (VMI).
A two-RBI single ended Ereu’s shutout in the sixth and cut the Pilots’ lead to 6-2.
Mason Dunaway continued his incredible night in the seventh inning with a three-run bomb, extending the lead to 10-2.
RBI singles by Henry Garcia (Howard College) and Hunter Cole (Randolph Macon) put a bow on the game in the ninth inning.
The Pilots now take a three-game winning streak, facing the Wilmington Sharks tonight.
