Pilots Rout Tobs

WILSON, N.C. – The Peninsula Pilots routed the Wilson Tobs 14-3 on Friday night at Historic Fleming Stadium to win their fourth consecutive game.

Peninsula (21-15, 5-3) used a 13-hit attack and a strong outing by Kyle Hinton (Delaware) to put them in first place in the second half.

The Pilots put up two runs in the third inning to take an early lead. After a one-out walk to Matt Schneider (Mercyhurst), Logan Augustine (Lincoln Memorial) singled to center to put two runners on. Drake McNamara (Southern Indiana) continued his strong week with a single through the left side to score Schneider. Spencer Horwitz (Radford) followed with a ground out to score Augustine for a 2-0 advantage.

McNamara hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning to push the lead to 4-0.

With the comfortable lead, Hinton had minimal trouble with the Tobs as he improved to 3-0 on the season. The right-hander gave up one hit and walked three while striking out five in five innings.

Drew Delsignore (Mercyhurst) belted a solo shot in the sixth inning to extend the lead to five.

Wilson (11-24, 2-5) scratched across their first run with a RBI double by Kyle Butler (Radford) in the sixth inning.

Peninsula exploded with a five-run seventh inning to put the game out of reach. Conor Davis (Auburn) started the scoring with a RBI single to score Augustine. Later in the inning, with the bases loaded, Nathan Eaton (VMI) hit a two-run single and another run scored on an error to push the lead to 9-1. Scott Dubrule (Jacksonville) capped the scoring in the inning with a RBI single up the middle.

Wilson got two runs back in the seventh inning on a wild pitch and a RBI ground out.

The Pilots put up four runs in the ninth inning to increase their lead. With the bases loaded, Augustine hit a sacrifice fly to score Connor Stephens (Jacksonville). After a hit by pitch loaded the bases again, Horwitz drew a walk to score a run. Davis was hit by a pitch to score another run and Delsignore capped the scoring with an infield single to bring in Zac Ching (VMI).

Peninsula returns home on Saturday to host Holly Springs for YMCA Night and Yoga Night.
