Pilots Drop Road Contest in Edenton

EDENTON, N.C. – Drake McNamara’s two home runs were not enough as the Peninsula Pilots dropped an 8-6 road contest to the Edenton Steamers at Historic Hicks Field on Friday night.

Edenton jumped out to a 1-0 lead after a solo home run by Chris Ayers (Indiana State) in the first inning.

Drake McNamara (Southern Indiana) tied the game up in the second inning with a home run to left field.

The Steamers immediately retook the lead in the bottom of the frame with a RBI double by Anthony Maselli (Boston College).

Peninsula scored three runs in the third inning to take the lead. Connor Stephens (Jacksonville) drew a leadoff walk and scored on Jonathan Embry’s (Liberty) two-run home run. Later in the inning, back-to-back home runs by Logan Augustine (Lincoln Memorial) and McNamara put the Pilots ahead 4-2.

Jamie Galazin (St. John’s) brought the Steamers within one with a solo home run in the fourth inning.

A five-run seventh inning by the Steamers put the hosts back on top with an 8-4 lead.

McNamara’s second two-run home run in the eighth inning brought the Pilots within two but they could not get any closer as they dropped their third straight contest.

Sean Hughes (Boston College) picked up the win with a scoreless seventh inning. Paul Hall Jr. (Virginia Tech) was charged with the loss after giving up five runs without retiring a batter.

Peninsula returns to War Memorial Stadium on Saturday as they host Wilson for Kevin Eadie Night.
