Pilots take share of first place


The Pilots would get another win against a north division rival as they defeated Petersburg 6-4 at the Petersburg Sports Complex Sunday evening.

Peninsula would gets its only scoring in the fourth inning as starting pitcher Ben Tomchick (Old Dominion) would earn his fourth win, improving to 4-4 for the season.  Tomchick would go 6 1/3 allowing three earned runs on five hits.  Closer Kevin McKague (Army) would earn his third save of year, as he would get back-to-back saves from the night before; Christopher Kiper would get the loss for Petersburg.

The six-run fourth would come from five hits and one Petersburg error.  Josh Wright (Old Dominion) would lead the Pilots, going 3-for-5 and earning two RBI's off his fourth inning triple to right field, scoring Jimmy Rider (Kent State) and McKague.  Chas Crane (Winthrop) would then score David Coleman (Virginia) and Will Lamb (Clemson) with his two RBI double to right-center. 

Peninsula would keep Petersburg scoreless until the seventh as they would knock in three runs off two hits.  Jake Lowery would get his team on the scoreboard as he would take a Tomchick pitch over the right-field wall for a three run home run.  The Generals would remain silent in the eighth, but would attempt a ninth inning rally only scoring one run as the Pilots claimed its 14th win in the second half and a share of first place in the Coastal Plain League's North Division with Wilson.

Peninsula would have the offensive advantage, out hitting the Generals 11-8.
