HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. – The Peninsula Pilots used a four-run seventh inning to rally for a 9-6 road victory over the Holly Springs Salamanders on Thursday night.
Trailing 6-5 in the seventh inning, the Pilots used a two-run single by Sam Griggs (Southern Indiana) to take the lead. A bases loaded walk by Zac Ching (VMI) and a sacrifice fly by Jonathan Embry (Liberty) allowed the Pilots to add insurance runs.
The late rally allowed Braun Miller (Malone) to pick up the victory. The left-hander tossed three scoreless innings and struck out four in relief. Nathan Eaton (VMI) pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the save.
Collin Liberatore (Pittsburgh) picked up the start and gave up five runs in 4 1/3 innings before the late rally took him off the hook for the loss.
Drake McNamara (Southern Indiana) continued his hot streak with a RBI single in the first inning to put the Pilots on top early.
Peyton Issacson (Coastal Carolina) hit a two-run home run for the Salamanders in the second inning to take a 2-1 lead. A solo shot by Cory Wood (Coastal Carolina) put the hosts ahead 3-1 in the third inning.
Peninsula mounted a two-out rally in the fourth inning as they tied the game on an error and a RBI double by Scott Dubrule (Jacksonville)
The Pilots retook the lead in the fifth with a sacrifice fly by McNamara. Conor Davis (Auburn) gave the visitors a two-run lead with a RBI single later in the inning.
Adam Sisk (James Madison) hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the frame to put the Salamanders ahead once again.
Peninsula mounted a four-run seventh inning to complete the comeback and snag a road victory.
The Pilots head to Wilson for a matchup on Friday night before returning home on Saturday night as they host Holly Springs for YMCA Night and Yoga Night.
