Four HRs by Marlins Doom Pilots

HAMPTON, Va. – The Morehead City Marlins smacked four home runs en route to a 9-4 victory over the Peninsula Pilots on Wednesday night at War Memorial Stadium.

After trading zeroes the first two innings, Morehead City took the lead with two runs in the third inning. Kyle Skeels (Coastal Carolina) provided the first run of the ballgame with a solo shot to left field. Nick Podkul (Notre Dame) followed with a walk and stole second to put himself in prime position to score easily on Sammy Miller’s (Longwood) single for a 2-0 lead.

Jackson Ware (Mercer) gave the Marlins a 3-0 lead with a solo home run in the fourth inning. Podkul scored his second run of the game when he came around to score on Derek Olenchuk’s (Newberry) RBI single.

Peninsula finally found the scoreboard in the fifth inning. Conor Davis (Auburn) led off with a single up the middle. After two quick outs, Matt Schneider (Mercyhurst) extended the inning with a single to center. Logan Augustine (Lincoln Memorial) delivered a two-out bloop single to left to score Davis.
